Earlier this year, the biggest social messaging platform WhatsApp rolled out dark mode for Andriod and iOS users and since then they have been putting up efforts to make the app a user-friendly platform.
WhatsApp is known for keeping users’ conversation private with the end-to-end user encryption feature. This means that no one, not even WhatsApp has access to your personal chat with your contacts.

Still on security, due to the high number of reported cases of hacked accounts, WhatsApp introduced the Two-step-verification option which allows users to stay even more secured on the platform.
With two-step verification, anyone who tries to hack your account, have a huge security test to pass which in end makes every of their effort unaccomplished. Thanks to WhatsApp for that.
So many new features coming to WhatsApp. Some are already with us while some are expected to arrive in future time. (Though WhatsApp has this issue of taking very long to implement or correct new and existing features to their app. We hope this change in the future).
One of the long-awaited features that everyone craved for was the dark mode. WhatsApp did hear the plea of its users and considered their request granted. Today both Andriod and iOS users are enjoying the dark mode.
But to some Andriod users, the dark mode is one of the worst updates that WhatsApp released, and users have blasted them for such poor and boring dark mode as they claimed. A lot of people claim the dark mode was well implemented on the iOS version.
Good thing is that Whatsapp knows about this whole mess and how bad users felt about it and are currently working to make amendments in their next update. You can check out the article here.
In a tweet by @WhatsApp on the 1st of July, 2020, WhatsApp announced that new features like; improvements to group video calls, status in KaiOS, Animated Stickers, QR Codes Scan and most amazingly, Dark Mode on the WhatsApp web version.
In this article, I will briefly explain to you what WhatsApp web is, how to use it, and then get back fully to show you how you can activate the dark mode for it.
What Is WhatsApp Web?
The WhatsApp web allows you to access every feature on the mobile version of it through your laptop or desktop screen.
This is possible when you link your WhatsApp app from your phone to the desktop version. Note; the WhatsApp web is not an app. It’s made possible through your smartphone wireless extension to your desktop.
When this connection is made, you can see all your contacts, see all their messages, reply to them (this time your PC keyboard or external keyboard is used instead of your phone keyboard), share documents, view your updated status, and that of your friends.
But you are limited to updating/creating new status through the web version. Maybe this will be fixed in the future.
Aside from this, every other thing is possible through the web version of WhatsApp. See how to use the WhatsApp web in these simple steps below.
All You Need, To Successfully Use WhatsApp Web Without Difficulty
- Internet Connection
- A Phone and A PC (Desktop)
- Active WhatsApp Account
- Visit the website (web.whatsapp.com)
1. Internet Connection
First thing first, before you can use the WhatsApp web, you need an internet connection. Not just an internet connection but a strong one at that. Internet connection plays a major role in making this achievable.
Connect your phone and PC to any available hotspot, or MiFi network and you are one step to success.
If you need a MiFi for your home or office use, check out some of our best collections below.
2. A Phone and A PC (Desktop)
As I said, the WhatsApp web is not an app on its own. It’s made possible through phone connection (wireless extension).
Your phone and desktop must be within the same environment where you wish to access the WhatsApp web.
This is important because, when you are connected and you take your phone to a far location leaving your laptop or desktop computer behind, the connection may be lost.
But after due findings, I got to understand that this only happens when the network you are using is shared from the phone.
Because of this, it’s advised to keep both the phone and desktop computer in the same location for a better network experience.
3. Active WhatsApp Account
Before you have access to the WhatsApp web, you must have an already existing account with WhatsApp, else it won’t work.
You need to first register your phone number after installing the app on your smartphone. If this is done already, then you are good to go.
4. Visit the website (web.whatsapp.com)
Goto your browser using your laptop or desktop, key in web.whatsapp.com in the search bar and hit the enter button.
Allow it to load and bring you to the WhatsApp web window. After this is done, it’s time to link your phone to your desktop.
